The Council

The Beaufort-Delta Education Council (BDEC) is located in Inuvik, the government centre and transportation hub for the Western Arctic. Since 1979, Inuvik has been the end of the Dempster Highway, thus connecting the Arctic with southern communities. Inuvik is also the main headquarters for the oil and gas industry operating in the Beaufort Sea/Mackenzie Delta.

The Beaufort-Delta Education Council is the most northerly school board in the Northwest Territories with all eight communities and nine schools located north of the Arctic Circle. The BDEC serves approximately 1800 students in the region, is responsible for about 200 administrators, teachers and support staff, and oversees a budget of approximately $24 million.
